Red Bull Ready to Lock Horns with Mobile TV

Red Bull today unveiled its much anticipated plans for an assault on the ever growing Mobile TV market.

The energy drink giant has hooked up with mobile operator Cell C to bring consumers an alternative mobile TV offering. Red Bull Mobile is to utilize Cell C’s innovative third-generation mobile network, which offers data access speeds of up to 21Mbit/s.

The launch event, which took place in Johannesburg, verged somewhere between impressive and aggressive, with a series of bold post-paid price plans being revealed.

The RBM 100 plan, costs 149 South African Rand per month (£12.76) and the more extensive RBM 200 plan is R249 per month.

Red Bull is banking on its global appeal to give them a head-start in their new market venture, with subscribers being given exclusive access to Red Bull-sponsored athletes and sports teams, as well as, priority ticketing for events, such as Red Bull Racing.

Depending on what package is selected, subscribers will have a selection from some of the finest smartphones on the market, including the Red Bull Mobile-branded Android smartphone.

The new service will be available through Cell C stores from February 25th.

Well there is a helluva combination for insomniacs TV and Red Bull in the one glass. All joking aside this is quite an unusual joint venture and it probably bodes well for Mobile TV if they can make this work after all Red Bull are a big global brand and Mobile TV needs the global recognition.
