Mobile TV Surge in Russia
MegaFon - Russia's Mobile TV power player - have tripled their subscribers since Christmas with an incredible 450,000 new subscribers.
According to AKTR and Vedomosti, the service known as Video Portal employs 3G and EDGE technology to offer viewers 20 TV channels for R8(€0.2) a day. An additional eight channels are also available for an extra R10 a day.
Video Portal, which is now available on the iPhone, is offered nationally and can be received with handsets with streaming video options.
MTS, long known as Russia's pace setter in the mobile industry, meanwhile operates a mobile TV service that can only be received by smartphones. It has over 100,000 subscribers in Moscow and the North West of Russia, half of them using iPhones.
